SPEED WEEK part 3: some fast songs from friends of the blog

SPEED WEEK part 3: some fast songs from friends of the blog

Happy day three of speed week. Hope you are freakin ZOOMING by now.

For today's post, I thought I'd ask some Friends of the Blog (bands/artists I have covered before, plus PR/label folks who are kind enough to send me fresh delicious new music on the regular) to send me a fast song from their catalog / slate of artists.

"Fuel to the Flame (Thunderska Edit)" - Gender Warfare
last seen in I Enjoy Music here
Though the London trio Gender Warfare disbanded last year, their speedy songs, which smash together hardcore and hyperpop in a particle accelerator type of way, live on. Drum AND bass? In this economy?

"WHALE SONG" (Live) - first president of japan
last seen in I Enjoy Music here
Letting it rip, cetacean-style. Says the band: "Starting a mosh pit to a song inspired by whale falls is the most rock and roll thing we've yet to do. Studio version is coming this spring 🫶🏻."

WHALE SONG - Live, by first president of japan
from the album You Can’t Have Your first president of japan And Eat It Too

"So What!" - Michael Younker
Dimes Square meets CBGB. I think this is the only time I've heard the chic prestige movie theater Metrograph referenced on a song.

"Vision II" - Lane
last seen in I Enjoy Music here
A fast song with even faster guitars. Nerve-wracking but opulent.

Vision II, by Lane
from the album Theremin

"Athens" - Ilithios
last seen in I Enjoy Music here
Exhilarating synth pop to stimulate the heart muscles (physical and emotional). Says Manny Nomikos: "This is currently our fastest song, which is probably a sign to write faster songs since i think other bands will smoke us 0-60. But this song was supposed to get to that BPM of excitement of new love, not franticness.
It's like Vin Diesel said in F8 of the Furious, 'I like fast, but not too fast.'"

"Hakusho" - Imp & Daniel Saylor
last seen in I Enjoy Music here
Nothing like putting a little extra sauce on those hi-hats...

Hakusho, by Imp & Daniel Saylor
from the album Loud Pack

"Jajaja" - Salgado
last seen in I Enjoy Music here
Josh Salgado sez: "Here's a recent release that takes off anytime I play it in the club!" A good uptempo song indeed makes me giggle...jajaja.

"Time on Our Hands, Spider-Man" - My Best Unbeaten Brother
A beautiful synthesis of twitchy British post-punk and scrappy emo from the excellent label Audio Antihero.

Time on Our Hands, Spider-Man, by My Best Unbeaten Brother
from the album Pessimistic Pizza

"Raccoon Army" - Trash Panda Go Kart
last seen in I Enjoy Music here
From the 'power twee lesbian raccoon rock' duo comes an unreleased gem: "Our fastest song, 'Raccoon Army', doesn't have an official release yet, but you can hear it here:

We think of it as being about aligning the Forces Of Good to defeat the Forces Of Evil—an Important Parable for These Times."

"You only like me when I'm numb" - Nelson Comes to Visit
last seen in I Enjoy Music here and here

Superdestroyer x (leave) nelson b, really letting it rip. What could be better?

You only like me when I’m numb, by Nelson Comes To Visit
from the album Negative thoughts about myself and people I love dearly [LP 2] (2025)

Come back real fast (tomorrow) for more high speed goodness.

Thanks for reading I Enjoy Music! If you like it, tell a friend.
